Hi! We’re Steph and Katie Burlton, a married lesbian couple and full-time creative entrepreneurs. We’ve been together for 12 years, and we live on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, on the land also known as Vancouver, Canada.
Welcome to our little corner of the internet! While we both identify as lesbians and primarily create content that centres queer women, Lez See the World is built to be welcoming to everyone in the community including trans, non-binary, two-spirit, and gender diverse folks. We recognize our privileges as white, cis-gender, able-bodied, queer women, and we strive to make this space anti-racist, anti-oppressive, and as inclusive as possible. We are committed to learning and we are always open to feedback.
We started sharing our love story on the internet in 2016, in an effort to be the positive queer representation that neither of us had growing up. Lesbian and queer visibility will always be at the core of what we do, and we’re so excited to be able to share our life and our love with this incredible online community.
Here are a few things you might like to know about us:
We’ve been together for 12 years and married for 7.
We’re both in our 30s and we are child-free by choice.
We have a grey maltese-poodle named Theo.
We both love travel, musical theatre, craft beer, and plant-based food.
We love social media because of the way it brings together queer people all over the world, and connecting with our online community brings us joy every single day. You can find us on Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Facebook, and here on our website, and we are always happy to make new friends. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to us over email or DM, and if you like what you see here on our website, we hope you’ll take a look around!
Hi, I’m Steph! I’m the brunette, the original Burlton, and the bigger musical theatre nerd of the two of us. I’m also our video expert, tech whiz, and overall problem solver. I’m a dual citizen of Canada and the UK, and I grew up just outside Vancouver. I completed my last 2 years of high school in Boston, and earned my university degree in film and communications in upstate New York. After graduating, I played professional ice hockey back home in BC and represented Team Canada in field lacrosse. I’ve always been in love with the arts, and equally in love with sports.
My athletics background led me to work as a strength and conditioning coach for elite athletes, and a professional women’s ice hockey coach, while my interest in the arts took me to pastry school and to work as a photographer and videographer. I was lucky enough to travel a lot with my family when I was young, and I’ve always been interested in exploring the world. Right before meeting Katie, I took a solo, 3 month backpacking trip around South America. I’ve never wanted a conventional lifestyle or a “regular job”, so travelling the world and making art with my wife is pretty much my ultimate dream. When I’m not glued to my computer editing, you can find me making a perfect pour over, cheering on Tottenham, or throwing a ball for Theo at the park.
Hi, I’m Katie! I’m the redhead, the younger Burlton, and the self-proclaimed “lipstick lesbian”. I’m also our content director, writer, and dedicated list maker! I grew up just outside Vancouver, and attended a fine arts school from an early age. I fell in love with dance and music as a kid, and trained as a competitive dancer throughout my education.
My passion and love for the performing arts led me to a career in professional dance and modelling, and I worked as a performer and model on stage, in print, and in the film and television industry for more than a decade. I’ve always been interested in making art and telling stories, and I knew I would grow up to be a creator of some kind. I discovered my love for travel when I took my first overseas trip as a high school student. I went to Italy with a school program, and it was there that I decided I wanted to spend my life adventuring around the world. Steph was my first ever girlfriend, and meeting her and coming out was the best thing that ever happened to me. I never expected to be living my dream life as a proud queer women on the internet, but here I am and I couldn’t be happier! When I’m not working on creative new ideas for our biz, you can find me snuggling our pup, making an epic smoothie, or meticulously planning our next trip.
We met at a dance studio in Vancouver at the end of 2010, and we very quickly fell in love! We dated for 9 months before moving in together, and made our first home in Gastown where we lived for a year and a half. We were both working hard on our careers at that time, and we would take quick getaways anytime we could, dreaming of a time when we would be able to travel more.
At the start of 2013 we moved across the country to Toronto, and spent 2 years living and working in Canada’s biggest city. We would go on little travel adventures every chance we got, and on a trip to NYC in 2014, Steph proposed and we got engaged! Later that year it felt like it was time for a new chapter, and Katie got a performing contract in Niagara Falls.
We moved from Toronto to Niagara, and bought our first home together. We lived there through 2015 while we worked, planned our wedding, and had a taste of suburban life. Somewhere along the way a pup stole our hearts, and our family grew to include little Theo!
At the end of 2015 we got married in Vancouver in our old Gastown neighbourhood. We had a small winter wedding between Christmas and New Years, and celebrated with family and friends from all over the world. After our honeymoon in the Caribbean, we want back to our routine and quickly realized that we wanted something different for our married life together.
A couple months later we rented out our home, took our work on the road, and began a life of full-time travel. We started sharing our travels and our love story on social media, and that was how Lez See the World was born! Our travels have taken us all over the world, and we’ve been able to grow an amazing online community through sharing our life and our love. In 2019 we bought our second property together, a condo in Vancouver where we’ve been living since the start of the pandemic.
At the end of 2020 on our 5th wedding anniversary, Katie proposed to Steph and asked if she could take her name. To celebrate 10 years together we officially became the Burlton family! At the end of 2021 we sold our house in Niagara Falls, and we plan to invest in another property here in BC. We are currently waiting for the day when we can adventure around the world again, but in the meantime we are living in Vancouver, growing our business, and living out our dreams after 11 years together.
We are honoured to live and work on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territories of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and Sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations.
